NextPreviousHomeWhat is the future direction of BluffTitler?

DaDa, songbaojin, Guy_Ferron and 1 other like this!

Don't get me wrong, all this new functionality is fantastic and I personally like it a lot but does it fit the basic product strategy for BluffTitler?

Is this really easy-to-use titler software? Who are the new target customers that are to pay for the product? Is it people like us few here that love to play with 3D software, textures, models and who have the time to work through an interface that has not have had a overhaul in a very long time?

See the link for an input on the BluffTitler UI that is 10 years old:
outerspace-software.com...

I see very few titling samples showcased here compared to the intricate shows that are fantastic on their own like Vincents latest brilliant work at outerspace-software.com... but that in no way are titles that are feasible to create for an ordinary user without the kind of interest that we have and that has us invest literally hundred of hours in BluffTitler.

I'd rather see the future programming efforts put into a complete makeover of the user interface than going further into functionality that I don't think is crucial for attracting people who are looking for easy-to-use titler software.

Am I completely wrong here? What are the Community member's take on this?

I use a super old paint-shop 7 pro. I have no idea what number it's up to now. They did a big overhaul, I didn't like having to learn all over again. So I use the old version that I know how to use very good. That's one example of many. I use an old DAW I know how to work, even though it has been overhauled too, and there are plenty of better DAWs out there now, I stick to the old one I am used to. If BT were to have a complete overhaul, I probably would not like to have to relearn it all over again. But I do understand the appeal it could have for attracting new people. I just happen to like how it's so different and easy to use when you get the hang of it. I'm satisfied with it, and the speed at which new features get added. But how do you attract new people? Marketing. If one wants a product to reach the masses, marketing can be faster than word of mouth, in general.

I hear you Decentralized, I'm still on Word and Excel 2003 to a very large degree :) but my point is not about us few here who can work BT going back a decade but about getting new revenue from new users who have never tried BluffTitler before.

Decentralized i saw that Paint shop pro version is 22.1 LOL! and personally, I'm still with Windows7 but I think I'll have to take the plunge despite being skeptical about new versions full of snitches and who decide for you, but it seems that it is progress!
As for BT I hope he never loses his soul. Simple, versatile, powerful, fast and cheap.

le beau jojo, I agree that BT is "polyvalent, puissant rapide et bon marché" but is the current track really the way to go for attracting a big crowd of new paying BluffTitler non-expert titlers that have not used BT for 10 years and who are used to more effective interfaces?
_____________

Seriously all here. I get a feeling that some of you support the 10 year old interface for no other reason than that you're used to it. Please do not think about yourself, think about the future of BluffTitler and the necessary revenue stream that new customers provide.

Do you think that the fantastic and almost literally uncountable posibilities that BluffTitler offers are easily accessible for non-experts and that the interface should stay much the same for another 10 years?

Personally, I do not. I feel I am fairly competent with complicated textures and 3D modelling for BT but after at least 10 years with BT I feel I am still hindered by the BluffTitler interface that I find very inefficient. Layers specifically.

I for one do not use BT as much as I did and I am really hoping that there will be a change in the direction of BluffTitler product management with a much bigger focus on a significantly more effective UI moving forward.

I really cannot think of any titler functionality that is missing in BT that would make for a non-sale to a new presumptive customer looking for titler software.

PiPPi, are you sure it's not about how you wish the layout was, and what you want? We all have our preferences. I like programs that don't fill up my window, for instance.

How to get new people to BT: Marketing (advertising) Promoting the product all over the place. You can overhaul BT anyway you like. But without promotion who is going to know about it?
I feel that is key, the most important part to getting new people, regardless if it's updated or not.

Vincent, 21 now huh? Too funny. I tried the newer ones really hopping it was better. But it wasn't, imo.

Win10 had a lot of problems at first. but they eventually got them all fixed. It's not too bad now. The wife has win11 on her new laptop. Seems to be a lot like 10, although I don't really use it.

Sometimes we are forced to accept changes, and over time you get used to them. but we can complain along the way. 😂

Decentralized, yes, it is my view as clearly put forth with wording like "I personally", "I see", "I'd rather see", "Am I completely wrong", "I agree", "I get a feeling", "Personally, I do not", "I for one", "I really cannot think", "I don't think".

I.e. it's of course about my concerns and it's of course my opinion and in that I'm asking what you veterans think in another aspect than what we are used to.

I'm not putting this forth for any other reason than that I care about BluffTitler. If I did not, I would not post this here. I would not post anything.

Kind if like me saying: "I do understand the appeal it could have for attracting new people"

And mentioning "marketing" twice, only to have it ignored, twice. lol

You asked for our opinions. Great. I gave you mine, only to be semi attacked for it.

Anyway, it's not a big deal. My apologies for clapping back, and not being clearer on how to get new people interested.

Most important part:

If we want BT to thrive and have a bunch of new people get turned onto the program. There are enough of us to promote it like mad crazy. And maybe one of us knows someone famous enough and can get them to promote BT.
There's a new pizza shop that opened in my town. It wasn't doing so great, hardly anyone knew about it. But some rapper/influencer with millions of followers on TikTok made one video about how much he likes the pizza, and now the pizza shop is supper busy with a ton of people going there.

What I am saying is that even if BT gets a full upgrade of it's interface and what not. Who is going to know about it? Marketing, promotion is key. Without it you wont attract a ton of new people no matter what is done to the program.

for me, BT is easy, fast, effective & powerful (powerful for my use cases).
BT is sexy for me, but may not be sexy for first time trial users due to BT's non-modern UI.
I love to hear that you care for BT's future. Speaking for users growth it requires A LOT of investments to double or 3x the user base and not every company can afford it. It does mean huge risks to the company and might make future support impossible.

Decentralized, I have a lot of respect for your work and input. I do not understand what it is I wrote that you deem an attack on you but I apparently wrote something that was offensive. It was definitely not my intention to do so, my sincere apologies.

As for marketing, that is of course an important if not crucial matter as regards to the survival of a company and/or product but that is not what I am looking for input on here. In this thread I wanted to get an understanding of the views on the direction of the product BluffTitler.

As for marketing, it's whole 'nother subject. I have a solid background in software marketing, software development, product management etc. For two decades, on an international basis in EMEA and the US under the flags of Lotus Development/IBM. It's an immensely complicated subject that involves a lot of stuff that I have no business knowing about and of course will not pry into and that are the financials of Outerspace Software.

Though I think it's a good strategy to have product development going hand in hand with the marketing messages and branding.

btunited, thanks for taking your time to reply.

Likewise PiPPi, I have learned a great deal from you. And have much respect. If you want to know what rubbed me wrong, it was not actually a comment to me. It was just a comment you left in general. But I could see how perhaps my comment and others brought you to it. It's not a big deal. I should make sure I've had enough coffee before I speak, lol.

This part:

"Seriously all here. I get a feeling that some of you support the 10 year old interface for no other reason than that you're used to it. Please do not think about yourself, think about the future of BluffTitler and the necessary revenue stream that new customers provide."

--Sure that is a part of it. But of course we all have been welcoming the changes. I'm not against anything that can make the work flow easier. Why not have both? Experiment with a new version, but still keep the current one. I'm not a programmer, but I'm thinking this would all require a lot of work. Ultimately it's up to Michiel. I hate to sound morbid. What if an Alien abducts Michiel, and he's never to be seen again. Is that the end of updates?

Decentralized, thanks for a very well worded reply.

I'd be happy to hear some feedback from the dev team
