I have a logo in a GIF file consisting of an eighth note on a five-line staff. Is there a way to "thicken" this picture so that it has a visible (and reflecting) edge when I rotate it?

Thanks, JM

Convert it to an EPS file. If you search back a page or two in the gallery there's a link to a program, BMP 2 EPS by VjMaddis, that can do it for you.

After you load the new EPS file, you can add borders, etc, to give it a refelctive edge

Thanks, Joe, but I wasn't able to get BMP2EPS to find Potrace. So I ran Potrace directly and then BT said it couldn't handle the EPS file (which is only 3KB in size). I then tried two other conversion utilities, CR8Tracer and Total Vectorize, with the same result. GIMP has no trouble opening the EPS file, so I think it's properly formatted. Can't imagine what the problem might be. Any further ideas?

BT can't handle some too much complex eps files, you can try to check 'low quality' in the settings menu and try again, sometimes that works...

Exactly what are the advantages of using an EPS file versus a BMP in BluffTitler ??????? Is it that you can bevel & extrude the image or what?

Thanks, Vincent, but I had tried that suggestion from Michiel's tutorial and it didn't help.

Mufasaxx, the answer to your second question is "yes." I don't know if it can also be done with BMPs, JPGs, etc.

You said it was a GIF file. Maybe you need to convert it to BMP first.

I just made a basic BMP file of an eigth note and a five line staff (I had to google it, I'm not a musician :-) ). The file is 640x480, 24bit. Nothing fancy.

I made the EPS and it worked fine for me in BT. It was also 3KB in size like yours. BT should have no trouble with EPS file up to around 7-8KB.

Are you using the format potrace -c -q filename.BMP ?

There's nothing else I can think of.

Oh, yes, I converted my GIF to BMP and used the same potrace command and got a valid EPS. BT jes' doan like it!

In the meantime, I found a better solution for me: I found the show for the article below and saw that the author applies his photos as textures to the letter A of a True Type font called GetierAnimalish.ttf. In this font, the letter A is a rectangle, and since BT views it as text, all the usual text options apply, including the extrusion I sought. I'm gonna go with this one!

Thanks so much for everyone's helpful and prompt comments. They're very much appreciated.

Cheers, John
