Can a group of keys be copied and then pasted as a new layer at a different time position?

I want to program a series of events which are much alike except for their horizontal location and time.

In the current version you can't copy/paste multiple keys.

But you can clone a layer (with the CLONE ACTIVE LAYER button) and drag the keys with your mouse.

Another option is to use the dynamic feature request. With this technology you can loop your show and use different texts and/or pictures for every loop. This way you can create long animations with lots of texts and pictures with only a few keyframes:

I've done this before using the Clone Active Layer as Michael suggested.

But rather than dragging the keyframes with the mouse as Michael suggested I used copy and paste of the keyframes.

For example, if I wanted the cloned layer to have all the keyframes 15 seconds later than the original ...

I use the arrows to go to the first keyframe, and click the copy icon, then add 15 to the time in the box, then click the paste icon.

I then go back and use the arrows to get to the second keyframe, then click the copy icon, add 15 to the time in the box, and then click the paste icon.

After I've finished that, I go back and delete all the original-timed keyframes.

I use the arrows so that I can get at the keyframes that are close together (I have some that are just 0.001 seconds apart) but if the original keyframes are far apart you can just use the mouse to select them.

It would be nice if there was a better way, but at the moment, that's the best way I can find.

Hi Michael

Would you be able to add a "time-offset" dialog to the "Clone Active Layer" option?

It would make doing what I outlined above very simple, and make the "Clone Active Layer" even more useful.

How about an option (ALT key?) to make the INSERT TIME and REMOVE TIME buttons only affect the active layer?

michiel, 12 years ago

That would be fine with me.

Actually, as I think of the implications, that's a BETTER solution.

Implemented!

In version 8.3.1.5 (released today), when you press the INSERT TIME button while holding down the ALT key, only the keys of the active layer are moved:

"Ask and you shall receive!" Thanks, Michiel, for your willingness to listen to, and respond to, the users. It
is rare to get this kind of response in this day and time.

I have a problem
the first day probe this function, and all good.
but today, when I try to move the keys of a single layer, hands me the whole project.
Any suggestions?

maitegras, 11 years ago

now I see another problem.
this function would be much better if:
when selecting the amount of time.
we could add the time in tenths of a second.
now just let drop time in seconds

maitegras, 11 years ago

Everytime you press the INSERT TIME button a tenth of a second is added.

When holding down the SHIFT key when pressing this button, a whole second is added.

OK, now I understand.
I had made a mistake.
trod, button wrong time.
I thought it was at the top, button-shaped clock.
now I've realized that you were referring to the arrows that are above the timeline.
thanks again. Have a nice weekend

maitegras, 11 years ago

Yes, I made the same mistake as Maitegras at first. I thought it was the Clock icon that you were referring to.

Until you implemented this feature I hadn't even realised that the "Insert Time" and "Remove Time" icons existed. I had previously throught they were for moving through the keys.

In case it helps anyone else, the "Insert Time" icon is the icon with 2 arrows pointing outwards, and the "Remove Time" icon is the icon with 2 arrows pointing inwards.

They are the last 2 icons on the right, just above the Timeline.

This is a very productive addition! Would have come in very handy when I built the chain drives.
