Tester and Doc6768 like this!

I was experimenting with point light shadows and added a bit of softness (0.1061). I didn't know it but evidently soft shadows requires some serious processing. I couldn't understand why my new PC with a i7-920 (2.66 GHz) processor and 12 GB or RAM was acting so laggy. I couldn't even playback the animation smoothly. I thought I had a memory leak. I tried to render the animation several times and as hard as BT tried, it fizzled then crashed. Rebooting didn't help. I ended up rendering the animation using the old screen grab feature and that was the ticket.

Soft Shadows are sweet to look at, but be warned and don't be alarmed if you're PC can't hack it. Thus is the power of BT - it brings even jacked computers to their knees. LOL....

I run the project with imac i5 Quad processor 2.66 GHz with 4GB ram. Export the movie with transparency; export speed of 1.1 frames per sec. Total time taken is 21.6 sec.

Playback is a bit laggy. Probably due to the custom show resolution. Switch to 1280x720 view at 50% produce a smooth playback.

Just for info only

Actually the custom resolution was part of my attempt to increase the screen size for the screen grabs. The original attempt to render it was at one of the preset HD resolutions. I never tried a software render at a lower resolution...that may have helped.
