Drawing a sphere on a flat surface is difficult. Most maps of the world use a projection method that enlarges areas close to the poles. For example Greenland isn't as big as most people think.
This animation shows what happens when you rotate the world before projecting it. The result looks like a crazy distorted world until you realize that no frame in the animation distorts the world more than the worldmap we're so accustomed to. Think about it!
The included effect file CentreOfTheWorld.fx uses the colour property to rotate the world. This means that you can rotate the world by adjusting the COLOUR property of the picture layer. If you think this is a hack you're absolutely right, but since the picture layer doesn't feature a WORLD ROTATION BEFORE PROJECTION property I had to abuse an exisiting property.
