vincent, GreenfishPete, LostBoyz and 3 others like this!

The latest version of the videowall tool can now generate show files that display photos from your harddisk.

This way you can, for example, create a sphere displaying all your photos of your latest trip to Milan.

The current version can easily be extended with lots of features. If you have ideas and suggestions please let us know by commenting to this article!

When editing a generated show, make sure to mark the ALL LAYERS checkbox when you change the settings of a photo. This way all photos are changes at the same time, saving you lots of time!

michiel, 8 years ago

Fantastic - thanks so much for coninuing to add features to this.

As you are asking for ideas and suggestions, here are the suggestions I made in the other thread.

* images to appear after time delay (x seconds)
* images appearance order (left to right, top to bottom, random, etc)
* different images ratios for alternating rows (for portrait and landscape, or other image dimensions)
* user-definable camera position
* reflection on/off
* images not linked

IBMedia, 8 years ago

Thank you for your suggestions!

You can remove the reflections by:
1) selecting a picture (does not matter which one)
2) mark the ALL LAYERS checkbox
3) press the CHANGE EFFECT... button and choose NotLightened.fx

You can use any effect you like. Try Filters\WhiteBorder.fx to add a white border to all photos.

What do you mean with "images not linked"?

michiel, 8 years ago

"images not linked" applied to previous version when the shows were being linked in the "active layer properties"

When using "local" images, this is not happening, so you can ignore that comment.

IBMedia, 8 years ago

The indices that are being applied

What sequence does that use?
- creation date
- modified date
- filename
- size

I looked to the dir command page, but couldn't find out what order is used.

Any way for us to control the order?

IBMedia, 8 years ago

Just another thought on the indices ...

If we added more images to the folder, would that possibly alter the images displayed in the show.

What I mean is in the show, the image layer would use

Originally, that might point to

but if you added more images to the folder, could dir:x:\temp\image.jpg[3] point to x:\temp\image6789.jpg

It's not a big problem, but would just like to understand, so that I know how to organise my image folders for shows.

IBMedia, 8 years ago

Alphabetical on filename.

Easiest way is to create a temporary folder and name your files 01.jpg, 02.jpg, 03.jpg,...

michiel, 8 years ago

Yes, that's what I was planning on doing.

Well, very slightly differently.

Then I know what they are by looking at the filename, but I get to keep in my desired sequence.

IBMedia, 8 years ago

How is this show works? Is there an example in youtube? I tried to download the show and all it shows is the static pictures. No movement.

Willie, 8 years ago

This is correct, there is no movement.

Why don't you animate the camera by letting it fly along your favorite photos? You can do that by animating the POSITION and ROTATION properties of the camera layer.

Of course this can be automated in a future version. What kind of camera paths would you like to have?

This is an example of a generator that animates the camera:

michiel, 8 years ago

Here's a show with animation.

It's just using the Videowall tool to create a sphere and then animating the container layer.

IBMedia, 8 years ago

How come I just get a curved wall of pictures?

Dick, 8 years ago

You have to consider this tool as something that creates the starting point for a show.

Once you have the show that the tool creates, then you can add some animation yourself and make it come to life.

That's all I did in the show that I linked to above.

IBMedia, 8 years ago

IBMedia, thanks for the response. But, in looking at your example, I still can't see how you turned it into a sphere!

Dick, 8 years ago

To take advantage of this wonderful program like others comments, a tutorial will benifit the novies like me.

Willie, 8 years ago

? The input controls seem to have changed. I can no longer make a simple sphere and move it around. The default is highlighting every picture, but I don't want that look. I just want a nice sphere of photos. How do I get it back to what it was on the 14th?

user390096, 8 years ago

I selected the Sphere from the drop-down selector for "Composition"

It looks like Michiel is adding some more new features.

I just tried to create a simple sphere like I did in the previous version, and tried to set the new values to 0 hoping that they would not be used if they were set to 0, but it did not very well.

I'm sure that Michiel will refine this even more, and make it easy to use, but, remember, today is a Saturday ... not a normal day of work.

IBMedia, 8 years ago

Thanks, IBMedia -- and for working on Saturday also ;)

Dick, 8 years ago

I'm just another user, just like you ... and, just like you, I'm working on my Saturday ... instead of relaxing!

IBMedia, 8 years ago

Set both the CAMERA MOVE TIME and PHOTO VIEW TIME to 0 to remove all camera animation.

Alternatively can remove all the camera keys by pressing the DELETE KEY button while holding down the SHIFT key.

michiel, 8 years ago

Hi Michiel

How about ...

Camera move time (Min)
Camera move time (Max)

Photo view time (Min)
Photo view time(Max)

to add an element of randomness to the animation.

IBMedia, 8 years ago

OK, Thanx Michiel, it seems to resort back to being able to create a simple sphere when I delete the camera settings rather than change them to "0". In any case, thanx for fixing the confusion the nice update created.

Can we get it to compress and expand the spacings between photos. It would also be nice if we could start with a line of photos that swirl into a sphere and then back out into a line again.

user390096, 8 years ago

Hi Michiel

Just noticed that you added the min/max values.

Many thanks for that.

IBMedia, 8 years ago

Hi Michiel

Could the Collage style be incorporated into the VideoWall?

IBMedia, 8 years ago

Michiel -Using iMac/Parallels 6. Is there anyway for me to capture the dynamic content or xml file. Entering the path on line doesn't seem to work for me?? BT can't find the folder when I open the generated file.

jmarkt, 8 years ago

What do you mean with "Entering the path on line"?

The videowall tool does not use or generate any dynamic content or XML file.

What is the error message?

michiel, 8 years ago

"On Line" meant "via the web site". Using Parallels 6 with my iMac (only because of BT), I right click/Properties, and the path shows as "\\psf\Home\Desktop". Entering that, a BT file is generated/downloaded. When I open that file, BT error message says, "Cannot open". Probably because the path is incorrect, but I don't know how to get BT talking with Parallels (in a Windows environment) talk with my iMac?? They sometimes don't play well together!

jmarkt, 8 years ago

In the generated BT Show why don't you just the F9 button to bring up the Texture window, and use the "Select Texture" button to find one of the images in the folder you are wanting to use?

Then just copy the path from that to the online form and generate the show again.

IBMedia, 8 years ago

The error window "Could not open..." cannot be closed, and can't work within BT (i.e. select the F9) or do anything??

jmarkt, 8 years ago

I understand what you're suggesting now! Did so, and it worked! Thanks, IBMedia - your assistance is as good as your shows!!! :>)

jmarkt, 8 years ago

Is it possible to have an option to have the images the other way round? - mainly for sphere and cylinder.

At the moment, the images face inwards - presumably, because the Videowall "built-in" animation is done by manipulating the camera inside the cylinder and inside the sphere.

But, if we are doing our own animation, and looking at the sphere and cylinder from outside, then we see the "back" of the images - this is especially awkward if the images have text or any other directional factors (Unfortunately most of the uses I have needed this for at moment require the images to face outwards because of text on images).

It would be great to have option of both, so we can use "inwards" for the built-in animation, and "outwards" for our own external animation.

IBMedia, 8 years ago

Good suggestion!

A MIRROR PHOTOS checkbox has been added:

michiel, 8 years ago

Thanks for the fast response on this.

IBMedia, 8 years ago

Another couple of suggestions - mainly for wall selections rather than for column and sphere.

Camera Movement Direction Selection
- BottomLeft to TopRight
- BottomRight to TopLeft
- TopRight to BottomLeft
- TopLeft to BottomRight

Camera Movement Step Size
- Min
- Max
(currently goes to every image, so step size move by 1 images, then 4 images, then 2 images, whatever, between the Min and Max)

IBMedia, 8 years ago

Whenever I use this I get a number of "Can't find image..." error messages equal to the total number to project,
but after cancelling each message as it appears, the show runs correctly. The path was entered as suggested

Dick, 8 years ago

I've had that message, but only when I incorrectly typed in the path to the image, or used a filename that didn't exist.

Selecting an image from the required folder using the BT ChangeTexture dialog, and copying and pasting that image path from the BT Window to the online Videowall tool will help to avoid any typing errors.

IBMedia, 8 years ago

To get the full path you can also right click on the file and select the security tab. This prints the full path that you can copy/paste.

michiel, 8 years ago

Would it be possible to get EXPLODE and IMPLODE options added to the Videowall Tool?

Something like this video ...

IBMedia, 8 years ago

Thank you for your request!

michiel, 8 years ago

Thanks for listening.

I had another thought about this.

If you do manage it do it for us, when you do the EXPLODE, could it start from the central images and work outwards?

Thanks again.
