I have had issues with the .eps import function from the very beginning but have always been able to make my projects work by using the trace function. However, now I am noticing that the I cannot use the traced files as 3d in 3d space which is very limiting. At the very left hand side of the tool window under the actual file name there are three entry boxes... the top two boxes with designate position in space, 2d, 3d, etc and justification are grayed out. Only the bottom box will allow for changes. I could very possibly be doing something wrong and any suggestions are appreciated. Otherwise BluffTitler is AWESOME!!!

Just like the text and EPS layers, the Traced picture layer always renders in 3D space.

What makes you think this is not the case?

BTW, the new depth of field and fog effects that will be introduced in the next version rely on a valid depth buffer.

Only layers that are rendered in 3D space render in the depth buffer and for this reason will be able to use these new effects.

The 3D IN BACKGROUND, 3D IN FOREGROUND and 2D IN FOREGROUND options the picture layer offers use tricks like igoring the depth buffer and clearing the depth buffer before rendering. This are hacks that can be handy in some cases, but it's better to avoid them and keep the depth buffer valid. This way you will be able to use the cool new effects of version 12!

If you are wondering what a depth buffer is all about, read this:

Thank you for the information... I think I understand. I really like the software and appreciate the fact that although I have a lot of experience with 2D software such as PS, AI, GSP, etc.. this 3D stuff is all new to me. It is fascinating and I can't wait to see what 12.0 brings! Thanks for the comments and the patience!
