I made the Show now with textures and reflection maps, I hope you can see the difference :)

When you download the zipped file, there while be 4 shows telling each a different direction or path if you will.

In the show 1. Space Balls Origin, you will see in the Point Light layer 4 keys in the middle of the show tight next to each other. These keys have been put in there to control the Shadow Intensity from 0.3 to 0 to 0 to back again 0.3 this was a fast solution of a common issue with Blufftitler.

When you open Show 2. Space_Balls_Without adjustments can see what happens if you don’t correct his issue.

In Show 3. Space_Balls_Avoid the O, is an example that avoids the issue by NOT GOING through the Letter O and this delivers a neater animation than the fast removal and growing of the shadow under the SPACE text.

In Show 4. Space_Balls_Fake Shadows, the issue is resolved by not using the shadow option but instead uses a fake shadow, in this case a copy of the text in FLAT mode and placed appropriately in relation to the original text (This is done poorly, it just serves as an example). With some time and effort it can be done well. Another solution would be a picture shadow made in a paint program with transparency on and placed in Blufftitler. And when you don’t have to see the back of the text you can use the ATTACH BORDER TO THE ACTIVE LAYER > GLOW BLACK OPTION, this is a fast way and good way the make “shadows”.

When you have tried to use the Shadow options of the Point Light Layer and nothing happened this is because to CREATE A SHADOW LIKE THAT IT NEED A SURFACE TO “PROJECT” ON. Most commonly is a PICTURE, or EPS Layer FLAT option used as backdrop.

When you want a shadow made with the Point Light Layer but don’t want to use a visible backdrop you can set the transparency to 0.99 of the backdrop this will render the backdrop nearly invisible but it will cast the shadow. Tip make this backdrop large so the whole show is covert because you will see a little light and color change toward the edges.

This is the final lesson in this form, next week it will be in the form of Tips and Tricks.

Ooh yeah if you are still wondering about the balls not touching the text, well THEY DO as you will see in the 4 shows. The trick I used here is three layers of Particle’s Spheres one on the left, one on the right, and the one in the middle that goes on/over/though the text. I placed the Floor Level higher at about the height of the text “SPACE”, because I noticed that this text was hit the most by the particles and would the most unforgivable layer when this happens. You don’t have full control over the Particles in the Particle Layer but you can tame and guide them with all the options but it is a fickle beast. I then rendered it about a dozen times until I could live with the result, but there are still collisions just not many or very in your face noticeable once. Would I be a perfectionist I could tweak and retry this process for hours and hours and wouldn’t get my needed sleep. Thank god I can be a pragmatic realist and let it go from time to time :)

Youtube does a poor job of encoding this video, it was already compressed to a mp4 format which looks great by the way, but even in there 1080P60 playback there are a lot of artifacts and lack of light and color so the whole video lacks the power of HD. I have tried rendering it different with different encoders but the result is the same. Vimeo does it better on 720p with the same source.
