Probably I forgot how I can have a text transparent surrounded by a colour or a picture and behind that text another picture or video (see example) In this I circumvented the problem by creating the transparent text with GIMP. Can somebody explain the Blufftitler solution to me?

Sorry, but the video after zipping has 33 MB, so You cannot download media files. Hope its understandable what I asked. If not, Ill try to use an shorter video (the above mentioned is ten seconds in PAL, /20/576).

Insert the "masked.fx" into the text layer effect and select video to insert video file.

Let me try to explain again:
the show which I cannot upload now because there is no option for a ZIP- file, consists of 5 Layers: camera, ambient light, spotlight. Layer 4 is a picture with flowers and layer 5 is a *.png- file with the letter A.
This layer 5 should be a Blufftitler text layer, like a window
Bylaw, with the effect "masked.fx" I should have another texture behind the text, which cannot be seen around the text.

delete layer 4 and layer 5.
add BT text layer - type your ABC
click on media, change texture to the flowers image and
change effect to masked.fx

This is easy with Vegas.
First Track - text (Media Generator) Set Track Compositing mode to multiply mask
Second Track - image or video. make track a child to track 1
click the made compositing child icon on track.
3rd Track - image or video (background)
