For now you can do a Google image search on "explosion animation texture".
Set the number of frames in the texture with the FX FILMSTRIP FRAMES prop of the Special\ParticleFilmstrip_Additive effect.
For an example, take a look at this installer show:
Text\ExplosionText9.bt
