chaver, liuyongcai, Decentralized and 8 others like this!

I created the house with vectors, sketches and model pieces. I generated the (big) glb with BT that i re-imported into a show to reduce the number of layers.
The model generated is fairly close to the original show.
The big advantage is that the number of layers is reduced from 200 to 1. The disadvantage is that with a single layer, the settings become unique for all the elements in the house.

NB : This house can be seen in Jacques Tati's film Mon Oncle (1958) storage.canalblog.com...

well done

Nice to hear that the export as model feature helps reducing complexity. Really powerful result. It makes me want to see the film!

I've found the house!

Hi michiel, nice found, it's a painting on the wall of a building in Cannes on the French Riviera.
I believe that the real house was in the old center of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés in the Paris region.
Another famous house in the film is the Arpel villa (maybe a next project of model).
This film is a satire of modernism, here an extract.

Jacques Tati's films are apart, we love it or we hate it. The advantage is that there are more sounds than dialogues, so no need to know French

As. always great work Vincent

Villa Arpel can be found on Sketchfab, but la maison de monsieur Hulot is absent. Which is strange because if I have to choose, I would go for monsieur Hulot's!

Maybe you can publish your version on Sketchfab.

Michiel, i tried but Sketchfab limit is 100 MB for free account and my glb is 400.
I tried to reduce size using "save + all media files" to have a list of used textures and reduce dimension, i won 100 MB, but the embedded textures of model part used do not appear in this list.
I tried to create the maximum by myself but i inserted some parts of models : lamps, flowers, plants, some shutters, doors and windows...
I would have to take inventory of the models used and resize the textures. Not sure I'll pass the 100MB mark.
I have to try to export the houses without the accessories.

For the villa Arpel i think we can much better with BluffTitler export than this model, the more difficult is the Fish (fontain).

Next to reducing the resolutions you could also try converting PNG to JPG. Maybe we can add a tool that automates all this. Thank you for the request!

Oh, and maybe their new fab.com site will accept bigger models.

michiel, 2 months ago

Of course it would be interesting but don't bother with that. THANK.

The model has been exported from this show (a little updated). Now i'll work on it to try to have a model < 100Mb.

C'est génial Vincent ,j'adore la musique qui accompagne ton montage

The updated model looks wonderful! I'm puzzled why they have rebuilt Villa Arpel ( pierre-adenis.com... ) and not uncle Hulot's house. They must have misunderstood the film because I think Tati presented Villa Arpel as an example how NOT to design a house. I would love to visit monsieur Hulot and walk the silly path to his penthouse apartment. How about creating a 1st person animation? That would be merveilleux!

Merci Patrick, la musique est ici : youtube.com...

Michiel, penthouse visit is a great idea and l'll try to do it.

I managed to go below the 100MB mark for the model reducing drastically all textures and removing decorations, but Sketchfab has strange reactions, some colors are different and some textures are totally white, the tests are complicated because each time it takes a good 20 minutes for Sketchfab to process the model. , I think I'll put this on hold for the moment.

For the colors i did a simple test with 2 vectors textured, one with default colors (255,255,255) and the other with (255,200,150) and it seems that the color settings (param color) are lost, both have same color in Sketchfab.
I don't know if colors are lost when BT exports or when Sketchfab import and processes.

Vincent, I have also noticed this. Sketchfab seems to ignore the colour when a texture is used. When no texture is used, it uses the colour but in a strange way. So it's best to do everything with textures. For example when the model is blue, set its colour to white and use a blue texture. Most models use this system. Probably because in most apps it's easier to change the texture than to change the colour, which is also true for BluffTitler.

michiel, 2 months ago

Michiel, thank you for the confirmation.

vincent, 2 months ago

Vincent, I double checked the issue and indeed, Sketchfab ignores the colour when a texture is used.

The other players I tried, including Blender, Windows 3D Viewer and a few online players all multiply the colour with the texture, just like BluffTitler does.

I made a note in the user guide:

Your house is fantastic, Vincent!

Vincent, the house never existed. It was a decor build on this square:

michiel, a month ago

Yes it is possible that it was built for the needs of the film in the old neighborhoods of St-Maur-des-Fossés, completely rehabilitated now.
It would not be the only time, in fact for his film Playtime he built an entire modern city with fake buildings over 20m high paid on its savings which ruined him.
