When playing a MP3 tune some parts of the show stop working. When I convert the music to a WAV format it all works all right.

You might find this article helpful. I had a similar problem using music visualization effects and mp3 files, but they worked fine if I used wav files. My problem ended up being codec interference. Read through this post and see if it helps.
