I've tried a few times to make an realistic pant splash over an text an the background.
It ain't easy.
maybe you can try to create a colourmap with the text inside and use this colourmap as heightmap on a splash picture....

I would use the 3D BLOBS style of the particle layer (first dropdown below the textbox)
