This new effect displaces the vertices in a limited area in a waveform.
Notice that the bounding borders of the text do not move. This area is set with the FX HORIZONTAL RANGE and FX VERTICAL RANGE props. The amount of displacement inside this area is set with the FX AMPLITUDE props.
In this demo, the effect is applied to a text layer, but it can be applied to all other layer types. Have fun experimenting!

Thanks a ton for this cool effect. If you crank up the wavelength high enough, you can get a more "linear" look which is currently quite popular.

Thor5ten, instead of setting the FX WAVELENGTH prop to a super high value, we could make the effect accept a value of 0 to do exactly what you want (infinite wavelength). Can you link to 3rd party examples of this popular effect in action?

Very nice, it can be applied to different levels, an image also with 3D solid, and also on 3D model levels, it also works on the particle. So excellent for venting to our imagination.
