Here's an animation that demonstrates the difference between built-in lighting (without using an FX file), the Lightened.fx effect file and the PhongShader.fx effect file.

You can see which FX file a layer is using by pressing F9.

I think the phong version looks best, but of course, that's a matter of taste.

The animation is based on the title sequence of Epic Movie.

How can one avoid the jaggies you see here on the "M" and "E" ?

I don't see any jaggies on my screen. I'm using an NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT set to maximum image quality.

Are you sure you've set your graphics card to maximum quality? (select Quality instead of Performance in the NVIDIA control panel)

Just checked this animation on a GeForce 7500 LE and it looks slightly worse than on a GeForce 6600 GT.

You would expect a 7500 model to perform better than a 6600, but this is apperently not the case. I wonder what LE, GT and GTX stand for.
