I've been playing around in BT trying to add reflection layer to a pre-textured model, but the only way I've found to do it is to drop the model into a container, double the model layer, resize the copy to .001 larger than the original, add the CubeMapDDS, and then add transparency to the copy.
Is there a better way? I've link to one I did so you can see the effect I'm after.
The answer is multitexturing. In this case you want to use 2 textures:
-the texture of the 3D model (a colourmap)
-the cubemap
What you are looking for is the ColourMap_CubeMapDDS.fx effect that can be found in the Effects/MultiTexture folder:
-Press F9
-select the multitexture\ColourMap_CubeMapDDS.fx effect
-use a colourmap in the 1st texture slot
-use a cubemap in the 2nd texture slot
With the FX REFLECTION FACTOR property you can set the amount of reflections.

Hey BJ: Do you have the ability to create different color and helmets and logos? If so, would you be interested in creating a dozen? I created some using 3dmax (30 day trial) last yr, but have had trouble wrapping the team logos.

OK footpaw here's my DirectX Helmet and all the skins. The file was too large to load here in the gallery, so I just sent it to my website and you get download it from there. The tga files I think are clearly labeled so you should not have any problem changing the look to anything you want.

WOW. Thanks BillyJack. I wasn't expecting that at all. Very much appreciated. I owe you.

Wow guys... this is so helpful! Can't wait to start preparing my son's next football season DVDs. Thanks for the help.
BillyJack, if you're still willing to share your files... (or even just one). I'll start our team's helmet from yours.
Regards,
Martin

Let me see if I can find it on my old computer. Truthfully, it's not likely but about the middle of next month, I'll be working on a new style using the Revo Speed helmet and will be glad to share then if you can wait that long.

Here's a sample sheet of what the new one looks like:

Thanks BillyJack, I can certainly wait (but I'll cheat a bit and start playing with Blender). I saw your 360Helmets... Wow, that is cool! I'm already looking forward to reproduce our team's helmet and use them in the DVD intros and probably in the lower third with the scores.

saxotenor, you should check this out. I can't beat it, so I bought it. I can't share it, but I can share the link.

Wow, that's pretty neat! I'll see what I can manage to do with smaller things first. I don't get much collaboration between Blender and Inkscape (importing a logo). I think I'm trying to run before I walk...

Wow, that's amazing!
